Search engine optimization, or SEO is the practice of actively increasing the visibility of your website and your business on search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo Search.
Google currently receives over 63,000 searches per second! This shows you just how many people use Google and other search engines to find answers, search for business information, and so much more.
SEO is important to your business because the QUALITY of visitors from Google is proven to be extremely high vs. other sources. The easier it is for people to find your business in search results, the more google traffic you will get, the more leads you will get, therefore you will increase revenue and GROW your business.

There are 200 known Google ranking factors (and potentially many more that are not known). The three factors that have the MOST affect on your SEO are:
Website architecture & other online website features (structure, navigation, content, user experience)
Domain security (SSL certificate)
Inbound links (i.e. backlinks)
So Does the Use of Pop-Ups Affect SEO?
YES Pop-ups on a website that offer flash sales, subscription options, automated chat etc do have the potential to negatively impact the search engine rankings of your website if they do not have anything to do with the content of your website or does not add to the customer experience.
In January 2017, Google did make an official statement saying that they would begin to crack down on "intrusive interstitials" aka - POPUP.
SEO experts agree the most offensive is the style of pop up that opens in a new window. It is suggested you avoid those not just because search engines do not like them, but many browsers now just won't allow them.
Other intrusive pop-ups that should be avoided include those that pop up as a user is navigating your site, show a pop up when the visitor first arrives that prevents them from proceeding unless they take an action.
I know this is a tough subject because for many marketing functions pop-ups work REALLY WELL.
One of the ways you could add a non-intrusive pop up is upon exit of the website.
There is exception if there are age restrictions to enter your website, because those are required by law.
So if you are considering using a pop up and one of your goals is to gain more Google traffic my conclusion and suggestion here is that you ideally find another way to achieve your task without a pop-up.
