This summer, Ryan Hann, from Orangeville Ontario created a campaign to raise awareness and funds for the Orangeville Food Bank.
“Will Swim for Food”
He set out with a goal to raise $500. The first day we activated the online campaign on Canada Helps – the online portal used by the Orangeville Food Bank – he blew right past that goal. When he asked me on the first day to increase the goal to $1000 I knew it wouldn’t be high enough. He had already inspired such awareness – a full MONTH before he had even jumped in the pool!!!
Each day he swam that week in August, the excitement grew, and more and more swimmers joined in his “laps”. This campaign sparked not just awareness from the adults in our community, but more importantly I was touched to see the young people getting involved.
In total he raised over $4000 !!!!!!
It was a real pleasure to help Ryan with this experience, and I can’t wait to see what next year’s campaign will accomplish!
NOW to the even BIGGER NEWS!!
Ryan submitted his campaign to the Ellen Degeneres Campaign in cooperation with Cheerios: “One Million Acts of GOOD”
“To raise money, food, and awareness for the Orangeville Food Bank, competitive swimmer Ryan Hann from Orangeville, Ontario swam 200 laps a day for a week tallying up to 35km. He was inspired to help after working on a school project creating a charity event and putting together Christmas Hampers last December. With a lot of community support, the swimming superstar helped raise $4005 and 301 food items! Brilliant job, Ryan!”
