The holidays are an incredible time of giving and love. Its the time of year most individuals and businesses think of donating to a charity. Hosting a food drive, or collecting winter coats for the needy, or holding a toy drive. These are all such amazing ways to give back to those that are less fortunate.
As a volunteer of the Orangeville Food Bank it always completely overwhelms my emotions the generosity I see at this time of year. I have been brought to tears a number of times.
Now we fast forward a few months, and its March or April. The reserves of all of the food collected in December are quickly dwindling. We are probably out of canned stew, granola bars, juice, and canned fruit. By June we are low or out of many staple items. The giving I see at the Holidays always warms my heart. But the need I see all year long - that is what I would like to encourage you to think about.
Most non-profit organizations have a way to donate monthly. Even a small donation of $10 / month goes a long way. This year during the holidays I wonder if some generous people might consider instead of donating at Christmas - sign up to give a gift that delivers all year long. And spread this possibility of good, hope & love 365 days a year.
The Orangeville Food Bank as well as many others use Canada Helps.org a safe way to donate.
or Find a Charity of your own to Support that is meaningful to you.
Wishing you and your family all of the blessings of the season.
