HOW TO CELEBRATE PRIDE MONTH…ONLINE

The Online Corner June 2021 Editions explores how to celebrate pride month online.

As someone who deeply believes in inclusion, diversity, and accessibility Pride Month takes on a special meaning in my personal and business life.  I believe in acceptance and love, and long for a World and a community that is free from judgement and hate.

I believe that as a LGBTQ ally I can help support raising awareness of issues for this community online, and I’d love for you to join me!

Pride Month, in June, is a time when people come together to celebrate, honor, and show support for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

Here are some ways that you can celebrate Pride Month…online.

Use Pride Month Visuals in your Social Media

The rainbow flag is a visual symbol in support of the LGBTQ community.  During the month of June you can celebrate Pride month by using the rainbow flag in various ways on your social media.  For example you could create graphics that include the flag in them for posts.  You could also update your profile pictures and cover banners on your social media accounts to proudly show the rainbow flag.

Share Articles and Raise Awareness of Pride Month

There will be many news articles, blog posts, events (perhaps virtual), and press releases shared online in June for Pride Month.  You can get involved to help spread awareness by sharing these articles to your own social media following.  If you are not sure how to find such articles you could set up a Google Alert for “Pride Month” and Google will email you potential items to share on a daily or weekly basis.  

You can also join conversations by commenting on other Pride Month posts.

Use Pride Month Hashtags

There will be lots of social media posts and discussions all month long that will use similar hashtags, many of which will be trending.  Using the following hashtags is a great way to participate in the Pride Month conversations

 #lgbtq #bornperfect #equalitymatters #accelerateacceptance #pride #pridemonth #loveislove #pride2021

On Instagram these hashtags will even appear in the rainbow colours!  There are many hashtags that relate to Pride Month that you can use in your social media posts, I suggest watching what is trending, doing your research, and using the hashtags that are most relevant to what you are posting.

Use Pride Stickers on Stories

Stories are a fun and creative way to share content on social media.  Each platform that offers stories also includes a selection of stickers and gifs that you can add to your stories to help celebrate Pride Month.
