Non-Profit Feature: Alzheimer’s Society of Dufferin County
The number of Canadians with dementia is rising sharply.As of today, there are over half a million Canadians living with dementia – plus about 25,000 new cases diagnosed every year. By 2031, that number is expected to rise to 937,000, an increase of 66 per cent.
My Nana at the end of her life suffered from dementia. I was a young woman in my early 20’s the last time that I visited her. She had no idea who I was. This was so heartbreaking for me.
Today in my non-profit feature I would like to recognize the incredible work that the Alzheimer Society of Canada and of Dufferin County does for people suffering from dementia or alzheimer’s and their loved ones.
The Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County, was established in 1999 and is one of 29 chapters across Ontario.
They offer support services, education, information and referrals, and support groups.
This weekend my friend Jessica Medeiros, founder of Shop With Purpose Markets is holding the Holiday Kick Off Market in Orangeville, Ontario, and funds raised will go towards the Alzheimer’s Society of Dufferin County. I love her concept of hosting events that give back to the community.
