How Social Media Can Help Make the World a Better Place
Day #98/365. Okay this series has been inspired by a suggestion that a connection of mine made to me on Twitter when I asked for ideas for blog tips.
This idea has been percolating for a few days and I’m exploring how to best integrate it. I really loved doing the last series of blog posts – my “goal series” was a very personally rewarding exercise.
Okay so here goes – I am going to share a series of 8 blog posts exploring “How Social Media Can Make the World a Better Place”
As many of you will have realized by now, I am a passionate volunteer at the Orangeville Food Bank. Through my volunteer experiences there, I have really become interested in service to others, and how much injustice there is in the world when it comes to vulnerable members of our society. Right here in Canada, right here in my home town, there is poverty, homelessness, mental illness, addiction issues, suicide, children going to bed at night with grumbling tummy’s. These issues hit me right in the gut.
I grew up in a home that was not financially stable, and the insecurity followed me into adulthood causing fear issues I still deal with daily. My own family used the services of the Orangeville Food Bank, and once as a child I witnessed my mother’s car be repossessed by a bailiff. Who I have become now in my 40’s is a women who cares really about anyone who is struggling in any way shape or form. Not just because I might have been there once, but because you never know where life may lead. I once heard the director of the Food Bank tell a room full of people – “You know who uses the food bank? It’s people just like you and me.” This is so true.
Now onto my series – how social media can make the world a better place. Really what I’m going to focus on is some points that I believe are ways that Social Media can help make the world a better place. Here is the list that I am going to write about during the coming 8 days.
