Good morning friends! Today is Tuesday November 27th
HOW DID GIVING TUESDAY START?
It is a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday and Cyber Monday)
HOW MUCH DID GIVING TUESDAY RAISE LAST YEAR?
2017 #GivingTuesday Raises Estimated $274 Million for Nonprofits. An estimated$274 million was raised online in the United States during the sixth annual Giving Tuesday event on Tuesday. The total represents a 50 percent increase over last year's total. More than two million donations were processed during the day.
My charity of choice - The Orangeville Food Bank. (is anyone surprised?) Today they are requesting in honour of giving Tuesday for donors to considering a monthly gift via Canada Helps. Even a monthly gift of $10 goes a long way to helping ensure the doors stay open! Did you know that we service over 500 clients per month in Orangeville and many clients do not come every month.
Giving is an important part of my life. I have learned that the more I give to the world, the happier I am, the greater my own inner peace of mind is. When ever I feel swept away in self pity the very best remedy is to be of service to someone else. I encourage you on Giving Tuesday to consider for a moment the things in life that you stress over. I know I often stress about money, things, material items. When I can focus instead on non-material items life takes on a whole new meaning. Love. Peace. Service.
Ask yourself today - how can I Give?
