OCTOBER A MONTH OF GRATITUDE AND REFLECTION

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough” – Aesop

How to Show Gratitude ONLINE

October is a special month to me. The cooler temperatures, the beautiful fall colours, the chance to get together with family all bring a sense of new life into my heart. I find myself reflecting on the many blessings in my life. A roof over my head, food in my fridge, and a healthy family. Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, gratitude, …….and okay food. Delicious turkey dinners, aromas of fall scents like apple pie and pumpkin spice. This month I am feeling inspired to show gratitude for my many blessings….ONLINE.

Here are some suggestions on how you can too.

SHOW GRATITUDE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Share gratitude using your social media accounts. Whether personal, business, or for an organization you have a unique opportunity to share positive messages to overcome any negative posts.
Share motivational posts, give gratitude to customers, team members, or just friends.
There are many quotes regarding blessings & gratitude you can use such as:
“Start each day with a grateful heart”
“This is a wonderful day, I’ve never seen it before”
“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions”
One positive message shared on social media can change a person’s whole day and inspire a ripple effect inspiring others to do the same.

SHOW GRATITUDE TO YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

Just imagine what some of your favourite local businesses have been going through these past 6 months. What a perfect time to show them some extra love and appreciation. The obvious way to show them gratitude is by purchasing goods or services from them. But you could also consider leaving them a positive review on Google or on their social media. Like, comment, and share their social media posts. Not only does this show you care, but it helps their business pages rank higher in the social algorithms. Another idea would be to post on your own social media a “shout out” to a local business or organization which can generate some great word of mouth conversations – online.

SHOW GRATITUDE TO A CHARITY

The Pandemic has hit those in need around the world the hardest. Even more concerning of a trend is the nonprofit organizations that support the vulnerable have seen a drop in funding, though they have an increased need to serve.

The month of October is a perfect time to show the charities that speak to your heart some gratitude. One of the most valuable contributions you can make is to become a monthly donor. This gives the charity a source of revenue that is sustainable year round, that they can depend on to keep covering their most fundamental services. However any donation is going to be appreciated and put to good use whether it is financial or donating physical items such as food or clothing OR donating your time by volunteering.

Thank You for reading my article in this month’s edition of Snapd Dufferin / Caledon. I am forever grateful to have Victoria in my life, and for all of the good that she does in this community.  As a business owner I can’t stress enough how much benefit I get from strategic relationships with like minded entrepreneurs and community organizations.  I highly suggest if you are a business owner continually seek out opportunities to build mutually beneficial relationships that help us all rise up together.

  1. I’ve been spending a lot at the local small businesses, which hasn’t been good for my waist line, because the only small businesses left around here are all food based

Gratitude is a good positive psychology intervention

  3. Love this Sarah! It’s so funny you should say that October is a month for Gratitude and self reflection! That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, I launched a 30 day self discovery challenge on my blog Oct. 1st and am documenting my own quest for happiness and well-being in which Gratitude plays a central role. Great minds do think alike I guess!
