What is a Hashtag? #

Hopefully by now you know what a hashtag is and how to use it, but some might not.  A hashtag is a search term that is preceded by the number symbol “#”

A hashtag is a word or series of words that does not include any other special characters or spaces.  On social media users will search for content or follow based on certain search terms, or keywords they are looking for.

A hashtag is a type of metadata tag used on social networks such as Twitter and other microblogging services, allowing users to apply dynamic, user-generated tagging which makes it possible for others to easily find messages with a specific theme or content. Wikipedia

How do you find Trending Hashtags?

When you login to Twitter (from desktop) Twitter will automatically show you on the left hand side “trends for you”.  This section is showing you hashtags that are trending that Twitter feels you will be interested in.

How to Use Trending Hashtags

Select some hashtags that are relevant to you or your business, and create posts & content based on those hashtags. I had some fun tonight tweeting about the TV show 90 Day Fiance as I was watching it with my Family.  The engagement & reach on my Twitter account went up substantially.  It is important to be authentic, but lets be honest too our goal is also to grow our social media too right.

You can use trending hashtags on all platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and even LinkedIN now allow the use of Hashtags.
